St. Petersburg Program at Pavlovsk -> Activities & Events
Program Dates: Monday, August 4 to Monday, August 11, 2008
Program activities and events which will be included in this program have been designed for the serious student of Russian art and history as well as individuals who simply want an in-depth understanding of Pavlovsk, other palaces in St. Petersburg and the people who inhabited them.

- An overview of the history of the town of Pavlovsk and the Imperial Palace, Pavlovsk, along with Empress Marie’s gardens and Pavlovsk Park with its inimitable pavilions;
- An examination of the people who lived at Pavlovsk from its inception up to the time of the Revolution in 1917;
- An illuminating look at the architecture, decorative arts, fine arts and restoration efforts which make Pavlovsk Palace so unique;
- A visit to the new permanent exhibit of gowns, daywear and travel apparel worn by Empress Marie and Alexandra Feodorovna, the last empress of Russia;
- An historical look at the Palace including its near-destruction during World War II and the artworks which were lost during that upheaval;
- Visits to other palaces in the area which will enable you to compare and contrast these Imperial residences with Pavlovsk Palace;
- A look at each palace’s distinctive nature including, for example, the Amber Room in Catherine Palace and the fountains at Peterhof;
On Sunday, you will have the option to attend a Russian Orthodox church service or to visit St. Alexander Nevsky Cemetery, the final resting place of famous Russian authors, musicians, politicos and others.
The program will also include a performance (concert, ballet, opera, etc.), a tour of the canals of St. Petersburg, which inevitably lead to the Gulf of Finland, and free time to explore the region’s incredible parks, historic sites and other notable structures.
Whenever possible, evening meals will be enjoyed in a variety of interesting and historic restaurants.
At every juncture you will be introduced to the wonders of Pavlovsk Palace, related palaces and St. Petersburg by dedicated and knowledgeable scholars and curators who, through the years of our relationship, have proven to be insightful and effective.
